About torwache

torwache is a small Chrome extension for one specific job: keeping websites on a local blocklist from opening. Add a domain, decide whether its subdomains belong to the same rule, and switch the entry on. Chrome enforces the active rules in its own network stack. There is no account, hosted dashboard, cloud sync, advertising, behavioural telemetry, focus score, or paid tier inside the extension.

Why it exists

Many website blockers have grown into broad productivity systems with schedules, timers, cross-device services, analytics, and subscription plans. Those products can be useful, but they solve a larger problem. torwache is for someone who already knows which domains should stop opening and wants the browser to enforce that decision without adding another service to their life.

Who is responsible

torwache is developed by Alexander Gutjahr and published by iconic.one GmbH, a company registered in Germany. The provider address, commercial register entry, VAT number, and legally responsible person are listed in the imprint. Questions that need a personal reply can be sent through the contact page.

How trust is earned

The source code is public under the Zero-Clause BSD licence. The repository includes strict TypeScript, automated tests, the WXT build configuration, Chrome permission declarations, and the code that stores and validates domains. Releases are built from that repository. This makes claims about permissions, local storage, and network behaviour inspectable rather than dependent on marketing copy.

What remains separate

The extension and this website are separate technical surfaces. The extension makes no analytics requests. torwache.com uses Fathom Analytics for aggregate website page views, as described in the privacy policy. Visiting the website is not required for the installed extension to block domains.
